Chargers pick up 5th-year option on WR Quentin Johnston’s contract
    • April 28, 2026

The Chargers exercised the fifth-year option on wide receiver Quentin Johnston’s contract, tying him to the team through the 2027 season. Johnston could have become an unrestricted free agent following the upcoming season, but he will remain one of Justin Herbert’s top targets for the next two.

The team announced the move Tuesday on social media and its website.

Johnston, a first-round draft pick in 2023, was the Chargers’ third-leading receiver last season with 51 receptions for 735 yards, averaging a team-leading 14.4 yards per catch. He also led the Chargers with eight touchdown catches, his second consecutive season with that many.

The Chargers faced an NFL deadline on Friday to pick up Johnston’s fifth-year option on his rookie contract, a four-year, $14.2-million deal he signed on May 11, 2023. He overcame a rocky rookie season in which he was better known for his drops than for his 38 catches for 431 yards and two TDs.
