Freebie of the week: Swallows Day Parade returns to San Juan Capistrano
    • March 16, 2026

Spring has officially sprung, and that means it’s time for the 66th annual Swallows Day Parade and party in the historic district of San Juan Capistrano on Saturday, March 21.

This is the traditional celebration of the return of the mission’s cliff swallows from their winter sojourn in South America. There aren’t as many swallows as there once were, but it’s still a fun time for all. You’ll want to arrive early to avoid the crowds and to park before the street closures. The Mercado Street Faire runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the parade starts at 11 a.m.

Note that the Metrolink train only costs $10 all day on weekends and kids ride free. It stops right downtown. And the River Street Marketplace is planning a free all-day party. Learn more and see the shuttle schedule here: swallowsdayparade.org
