Record-setting day for Jaslene Massey, Servite at CIF State track meet
    • May 31, 2026

Jaslene Massey did something no track and field athlete has ever done in CIF history.

Servite did something no track team has done in CIF history.

Massey set a state record in the discus and Servite won a team championship with a record-setting points total Saturday in the CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High in Clovis.

Massey won the discus with a California-record throw of 196 feet and 4 inches. No girls discus athlete in state high school history had gone beyond 196 feet … or even 191 feet. The previous record was 190-3 set in 2009 by Anna Jelmini of Shafter.

Massey also won in the shot put with a mark of 52 feet, 9 inches.

Servite won a CIF State track and field team championship for the second year in a row. This time, the Friars did so in a record-setting way. Servite compiled 60 points, the largest points total for a boys team in CIF State Track and Field Championships history.

Rosary finished third in the team standings at the state meet with 28.5 points. Long Beach Wilson won the team title with 70 points.

The Friars 4X100 relay team, featuring twins Jace and Jorden Wells, Kamil Pelovello and Benjamin Harris was victorious with a time of 39.73 seconds. Earlier this season Servite became the first to run the 4X100 relay in under 40 seconds.

Their 4X400 relay team also was a winner. The foursome of the Wells twins, Pelovello and Jaelen Hunter completed the race in 3 minutes, 7.62 seconds to finish five seconds ahead of El Cerrito.

Servite junior Benjamin Harris won the 100 in 10.14 seconds, a wind-aided time. It is the No. 2 time in the state under all conditions this season.

Servite’s Wells twins, sophomores, finished second and third in the 200. Jace Wells ran it in a wind-aided 20.69 seconds, Jordan’s time was 20.79.

JSerra senior Alden Morales said earlier this week that he knew his competition well in the CIF State meet’s 800, having run against the event’s top athletes before.

Morales finished in front of them all Saturday, winning the 800 in 1 minute, 50.57 seconds in the CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High in Clovis.

Aliso Niguel senior Dane Malloy won the triple jump with his mark of 49 feet, 11.25 inches, a remarkable improvement over his previous personal best of 49-0.75 at the CIF Southern Section finals two weeks previous.

Rosary won the 4X100 relay with a time of 44.87 seconds. The Royals team was Tra’Via Flournoy, Justine Wilson, Pfeiffer Lee and Maliyah Collins.

Among Rosary’s other points-gathering events was a second-place finish in the 4X400 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 43.89 seconds. CIF State girls team champion Long Beach Wilson won it at 3:36.17.

Rosary sophomore Collins was fourth in the 200 (11.52 seconds).

Mater Dei senior sprinter Eden Murray finished seventh in the 100 (a wind-aided 11.61) and fourth in the 200 (23.66).

Yorba Linda junior Isabella Wroblewski was fifth in the 800 with a personal-best of 2 minutes, 8.42 seconds.
