Heat wave means an early end to Snow Summit ski season
    • March 21, 2026

As they did with Frosty the Snowman, the sunny days of spring are melting away the snow at Southern California ski slopes.

Snow Summit ski resort in the San Bernardino Mountains will close for the season on Sunday, March 22, at 4 p.m., Big Bear Mountain Resort, which owns Snow Summit, announced on Friday.

“This winter has been one of the most challenging of the last 25 years,” the resort announced in an email, “but our amazing operations and snowmaking teams did everything they could to get us this far, so grab your gear and come celebrate the good times with a few more last laps.”

Most years, Snow Summit remains open until mid-April, according to SnowPak.com.

The ski season at Snow Summit began this year on Dec. 12. The winter largely remained a warm one, outside of a rainy holiday season and a February snow storm in the mountains.

Bear Mountain, which is also owned by Big Bear Mountain Resort, will remain open for another week, through March 29, weather permitting, according to the email.

The nearby Coyote Creek Tube Park and snow play area will also be open this weekend, according to the resort.

On Friday, the National Weather Service declared a heat advisory warning for Big Bear City, followed by high temperatures in the mid-70s through the weekend and lows in the 40s.
