Chargers sign ex-Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell
    • March 12, 2026

The Chargers added another asset to their backfield Thursday morning when they signed former Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell to a two-season, $9.25 million contract with $5 million fully guaranteed plus up to an additional $1 million in incentives, per multiple reports.

The Ravens didn’t tender an offer to Mitchell, making him an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry in three seasons with the Ravens, including 5.8 this past season. He rushed for 341 yards and one touchdown in 59 carries over 13 games during the 2025 season.

Mitchell, 24, would fit well into offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s plans for an improved ground game in his first season with the Chargers after spending four as the Miami Dolphins’ head coach. The Chargers also signed ex-Miami fullback Alec Ingold to a two-year, $7.5 million deal last week.

The additions of Mitchell and Ingold gives the Chargers depth in the backfield, teaming them with Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal. Hampton was the Chargers’ first-round draft pick last season, but was slowed by injuries. Vidal, a second-year pro, had a team-leading 643 yards.

The 5-foot-8 Mitchell, who signed with Baltimore in 2023 as an undrafted free agent out of East Carolina, could play a similar role to that of De’Von Achane played under McDaniel with the Dolphins. Achane rushed for a career-high 1,350 yards with eight touchdowns in the 2025 season, including 128 yards and two TDs in the Chargers’ 29-27 victory over Miami in Week 6.
