OC track championships: Aliso Niguel’s Jaslene Massey has record-setting performance
    • April 19, 2026

MISSION VIEJO — Alison Niguel’s Jaslene Massey solidified her standing as one of the region’s most decorated track and field athletes in recent years with a record-setting performance at the Orange County Championships on Saturday at Mission Viejo High School.

The Oregon commit set meet records in the shot put (52 feet, 3.5 inches) and discus (188 feet, 1 inch) and was named field athlete of the meet.

Massey is the defending state champion in the discus and holds the county record in the discus and is second in the county all time in the shot. She was coming off first-place finishes in both events at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational last week.

“I feel like I was a little more dialed in in the disc in this meet,” Massey said. “Last week in Arcadia, I was a little more dialed in in the shot.”

Massey chose to compete in the OC Championships instead of the Mt. SAC Relays, which was also held on Saturday and where some of the county’s top athletes opted to compete.

“I love OC Champs,” Massey said. “I had to pick OC Champs because they were the same weekend. If I could go with both, I’d be in the car driving (to Mt. SAC) right now.”

Mater Dei’s Eden Murray earned sprinter of the meet honors.

Murray’s time of 11.68 seconds in the 100 meters is a meet record and the second fastest time in Orange County history. She was two-tenths of a second behind Western’s Carol Rodriguez’s OC record time of 11.66 set in 2003.

“It is a great way to end my OC champs’ career,” said Murray, a Southern Methodist University commit. “So, I’m excited about that. “I’ve been working really hard so it is good to see my work paying off.”

Murray came back later in the meet to win the 200 in 24.26 and anchored the Monarchs’ first-place finish in the 4×100 relay.

“We are finally clicking,” Murray said. “This is a new group of girls so it is good to see that our marks are working and we are able to win big meets like this.”

Monserrat Santillan-Silva of Century was named distance athlete of the meet, winning both the 800 (2:12.55) and 3,200.

In the 800, Santillan-Silva got boxed in early in the race, forcing her to come from behind.

Silva made her way up to the leaders and passed two runners ahead of her in the final 50 meters to cross the line first.

“I was honestly pretty nervous, because I don’t really do the 800,” said Santillan, who was a relative unknown before winning the CIF-SS Division 4 title in fall. “When I picked it up at the end, I felt good. I didn’t think I would catch the (runners ahead of me) but once I got around, I said I can do this.”

In the 3,200, Santillan-Silva took the lead about halfway through the face and never looked back, winning in 10:56.41.

“I was definitely a little tired so I wanted to try to stay behind whoever was going to lead, just to see how I was feeling,” the USC commit said. “But after the fifth lap, I was feeling pretty good so I just kind of took over.”

Orange Lutheran scored 56 points to win the girls team competition. The Lancers scored in nine events, including a first-place finish in the100 hurdles by Taylor Brinker

Portola finished second with 49 points and Mission Viejo and Los Alamitos finished tied for third with 45 points each.

Newport Harbor’s Natalie McCarty won the 300 hurdles for the third year in a row, but this year, the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo signee set a meet record, winning the race in 42.69.

“My goals was just to go under 43,” McCarty said. “I wasn’t focused on a meet record. I just wanted to get 43 so I can be there consistently and keep dropping those times.”

McCarty also finished third in the 100 hurdles and ran a leg of the Sailors’ 4×800 relay.

In one of the closest races and best finishes of the meet, Dana Hills Xochitl Saragoza came from fourth place in the final 50 meters to win the 400 in 57.55.
