Freebie of the week: Whale festival at Point Vicente in Rancho Palos Verdes
    • April 7, 2026

If you love whales or just enjoy free festivals, don’t miss the 41st annual “Whale of a Day” at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center in Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday, April 11.

This event, held on a particularly scenic point overlooking the Pacific Ocean, celebrates the gray whales who migrate annually from Baja California to the Arctic to mate and give birth. This time of year, whale watchers watch for them from the point, to count their numbers.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. enjoy live music, museum tours, kids games and crafts, face painting, food trucks and more.

The park has free parking, but for this event you should park and take a free shuttle bus from Ken Dyda Civic Center (RPV City Hall) at 30940 Hawthorne Blvd. If it rains, the event will be rescheduled to April 25. Learn more: whaleofaday.com
