    Local surfer, 20, dies after crash involving e-bike in Huntington Beach

    HUNTINGTON BEACH — Authorities Wednesday identified a 20-year-old man who died in an e-bike accident in Huntington Beach.

    Kolby Aipa of Huntington Beach died in the crash that happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Coast Highway and Seapoint Street, police said.

    According to Huntington Beach police, an unidentified 20-year-old man from Huntington Beach was driving a Toyota Tacoma south on Pacific Coast Highway with Aipa on an e-bike hanging onto it. When the driver lost control of the Tacoma, the e-bike and truck collided, police said.

    Aipa was injured and later died.

    Aipa came from a long lineage of well-known surfers and competed with the Huntington Beach Board Riders Club.

    Family members on Instagram, posting on the Aipa Surf Co. site, said: “Kolby always had a way with touching the lives of whoever he met. His acts of kindness and caring was his gift of Aloha to friends and strangers alike. To everyone that reads this… pass his Aloha on.”
