Cypress baseball makes it back-to-back blowout wins over JSerra
    • March 14, 2026

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — When the Cypress baseball team beat JSerra earlier this week 17-1, it seemed unlikely that the Centurions would produce a similar result in the second game of their series Friday.

But that’s what happened. Cypress put forth another dominant performance in an 14-2 win over JSerra on Friday at JSerra High.

JSerra (5-4) is ranked No. 4 in Orange County and Cypress (6-3) is ranked No. 7.

“Anytime you go against Brett Kay and that incredible program and you get two wins it’s great,” Cypress coach John Weber said. “I don’t care what the score is.”

The top three hitters in Cypress’ batting order went 10 for 11 with eight RBIs, a double and three stolen bases.

Oregon commit Tyler Vladic went 5 for 5 with three runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. Cal State Fullerton signee Noah Johnson went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Jake De Laquil, an Air Force signee, reached base in all five plate appearances with two hits, two stolen bases and two RBIs.

“Noah is one of the best players in Southern California and is the best catcher in the state in my mind,” Weber said. “Jake had been struggling for a little while. I’ve moved him down to fifth in the order for the last few games and today I put him back in the leadoff spot, so it was good to see that from him.”

Cypress got solid pitching performances from two lefties. UC Santa Barbara signee Drew Slevcove allowed one run in four innings on three hits with two strikeouts. Nick Nelson allowed one run in two innings with two strikeouts.

Sophomore Landon Smith pitched a perfect seventh inning for the Centurions.

The Centurions opened the game with two runs in each of the first two innings. Johnson hit a run-scoring single in the first inning and another run scored on a double play later in the inning.

Vladic and Johnson each had run-scoring singles in the second inning to give Cypress a 4-0 lead.

Cypress blew the game open with six runs in the fifth inning. Gage Owens drove in a run on a groundout to start the rally and De Laquil hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 9-1. After a single by Vladic, Johnson drove in two runs with a double to make the score 11-1.

JSerra scored its first run on a double by Ayden Coleman and Coleman later scored on a single by Ryder Fredricksen.

Cypress opens Crestview League play against Villa Park on Tuesday.

“I like where we are,” Weber said. “We were awful in the fall and I was overly concerned about every aspect of our game. In January when we started getting on the field everyday, we started moving in the right direction. We just need to continue to do that.”

JSerra beat St. Mary’s of Stockton 6-3 on Thursday. The Lions open Trinity League play with a three-game series against St. John Bosco that starts Tuesday, March 17.
