A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was too good for Yorba Linda football coach Jeff Bailey to pass up.

The veteran coach applied and accepted an offer for the Mustangs to kick off their season on Thursday, Aug. 21 at SoFi Stadium against Mayfair.

The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Bailey said Yorba Linda learned about the chance to play at SoFi through Playbook Sports, a management software platform.

He shared the news with his players at practice on Monday.

“They were pretty pumped,” Bailey said. “It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for some of these guys.”

Bailey said tickets start at $30 for general admission and climb to $46 and $66 for premium seats.

Fans from both schools will each sit on the same side of the stadium, Bailey said.

Last August, Yorba Linda defeated Mayfair 49-21 in the season opener for both teams.

The Mustangs finished 11-2 and reached the CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals.

Mayfair went 8-4 and advanced to the Division 5 quarterfinals.

SoFi Stadium, home of the NFL Rams and Chargers, played host the Rams’ win against the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI in 2022.

The stadium began hosting high school games in 2023.

Mission Viejo and Servite played Long Beach Poly and St. John Bosco, respectively, at SoFi Stadium last season.
