‘Fast & Furious’ cars race into the Petersen Automotive museum
    • April 6, 2026

The Petersen Automotive Museum is putting the pedal to the medal with a new exhibition featuring some street racing hot rods that have made film history.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the first “Fast & Furious” movie, the museum just opened an exhibition featuring nearly two dozen cars from the franchise, including several in the personal connection of the film’s star, Vin Diesel.

“The Fast and the Furious defines street racing and automotive culture for an entire generation of fans. It took what was a previously known subculture of JDM and tuning and put it on a broader stage incorporating youth culture, hip-hop culture and really a West Coast and Los Angeles culture,” said Kristin Feay, assistant curator at the museum, referring to JDM as Japanese Domestic Market cars. “We wanted to highlight the series’ most iconic builds and it’s most memorable moments.”

The exhibit, which opened at the end of March and will run through April 2027, is not only about the cars themselves but also about the city of Los Angeles and its high-octane tuner scene.

“Essentially what we like to say is that we’re bringing the Fast and Furious cars home,” she said. “We designed the room like you would be at a Fast and Furious street race with car lineup, cars along the sides to give visitors that experience of being on the sight of an underground drag race.”

The film franchise includes 10 movies that have grossed more than  $7 billion and features city landmarks from the San Fernando Valley to the Port of L.A. to Neptune’s Net in Malibu and Dodger Stadium and it includes cars from the very first scenes of the movie series.

“We have the ’93 Mazda RX 7 and ’95 Mitsubishi Eclipse from that very first scene which are pretty significant vehicles in terms of the franchise itself,” she said.

Some of the cars on display include Diesel’s 1993 Toyota Supra, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS from the 2001 film and the 1968 Dodge Charger from the 2015 film, plus his 1972 Plymouth GTX from the 2017 film. People will also be able to see outfits worn in the films.
