    LAFC routs Orlando City SC
    • April 5, 2026

LOS ANGELES — A soccer match was scheduled for Saturday night at BMO Stadium.

In actuality, a soccer drubbing broke out.

Five first-half goals by the Los Angeles Football Club against Orlando City SC culminated in a 6-0 final and a Major League Soccer record sixth consecutive shutout for the Black & Gold since the start of the season.

The opening 45-minute outburst was the third time LAFC (5-0-1, 16 points) scored a handful of goals in a half in MLS, as star forwards Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-min decimated the struggling visitors.

LAFC opened their account seven minutes in when, deep inside the box, a cross from Son was knocked past former Black & Gold goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau when it deflected off Orlando defender David Brekalo for an own-goal.

Not that LAFC needed the help against Orlando (1-5-0, 3 points), which entered the contest with an interim head coach and the leakiest defense in the league.

Bouanga took all of nine minutes to finish his three goals, connecting in the 20th, 23rd and 29th minutes. The rapid-fire sequence, assisted each time by Son, tied for the third-fastest hat-trick in MLS history.

Son’s fourth assist of the half came when he cut the ball back to fullback Sergi Palencia in the 39th minute for the Spaniard’s first goal of 2026.

Coming off a FIFA international window and returning home for their first game since mid-March, LAFC aimed to replicate the form that saw them tied for the top spot in the Supporters’ Shield race prior to the break.

Son and Bouanga had combined for one goal since the second game, but LAFC still found production from a variety of players along the way to keep them unbeaten.

Versus Orlando (1-5-0, 3 points), the stars resembled the dynamic duo who struck fear in the hearts of MLS teams after joining forces last year.

While Son did not score, he now has 11 assists on the club’s 24 goals through 10 games in all competitions.

The Korean’s quartet on Saturday was one shy of the MLS single-game record set by Lionel Messi last year, and it established a new high mark for LAFC.

Both Son and Bouanga were removed from the match by head coach Marc Dos Santos in the 58th minute.

Canadian winger Jacob Shaffelburg entered at that time for his LAFC debut. In fine fashion, the speedy forward struck a perfect cross that was headed into goal by Tyler Boyd, pushing the lead to 6-0 in the 70th minute.

At the opposite end of the field, LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’s half-dozen saves locked down his sixth straight shutout in the league. The performance extended the club’s streak in MLS without conceding to 543 minutes, going back to last year — seven shy of the club record LAFC set in 2024.

LAFC expects a considerably tougher test on Tuesday, when Mexican power Cruz Azul visits BMO Stadium for the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal.
