Stanton man arrested with nearly 900 pounds of suspected stolen copper wire
    • July 25, 2026

A Stanton man was arrested Friday, July 24 after Westminster police said he was found stripping copper wire and in possession of nearly 900 pounds of suspected stolen copper wire. They also confiscated methamphetamine, authorities said.

Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. Friday to the area of 10th Street and Beach Boulevard after receiving reports of suspicious people stripping copper wire, according to the Westminster Police Department.

When officers arrived, they detained several people in the area, including 44-year-old Richard Stubbe of Stanton, who police said was actively stripping copper wire behind a residence.

During the investigation, police said they discovered nearly 900 pounds of stripped copper wire inside a vehicle that police described in a news release as “related to” Stubbe. They also found nearly two ounces of methamphetamine, they said.

Stubbe was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of stolen property and violating probation. He was booked into the Orange County Jail.

Detectives are continuing to investigate and are attempting to determine whether the recovered copper wire is connected to previous thefts in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Foland at 714-548-3761 or the Westminster Police Department watch commander at 714-548-3767. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
