    • August 10, 2025

A man in his mid-20s was fatally struck by multiple vehicles after he exited a car on the 5 Freeway in Tustin, authorities said Sunday.

The fatality occurred at about 10 p.m. Saturday, August 10 on the southbound freeway at the Tustin Ranch Road off-ramp, California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Rivera said. The man, who was possibly from the Irvine area, opened his passenger door and exited a gray Toyota Prius before he was struck.

It was unclear if he rolled or jumped out. Details on the circumstances leading up to his departure from the car remained under investigation, Rivera said. No arrests were made, and the driver of the Toyota Prius stayed behind.

A representative from the Orange County coroner’s office was dispatched to the scene at 10:26 p.m. and all lanes of traffic were re-opened at 12:59 a.m.

Note: A previous version of this story said the person who was struck was a woman.
