Calvary Chapel swimmer Bianca Nwaizu narrowly missed setting the Orange County record in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday but still made history.

Racing at JSerra’s O.C. Championships, Nwaizu become only the second county girl to ever break one minute in the 100 breaststroke by winning the event in a meet-record 59.85 seconds at JSerra High.

The junior touched just over a tenth of a second off Teagan O’Dell’s Orange County record of 59.73 for Santa Margarita in 2023.

Nwaizu, who is committed to Texas, has challenged the record for the past few seasons.

Last spring, the Irvine Novaquatics club swimmer won the 100 breaststroke at the CIF-SS Division 3 finals in a meet-record 1:00.03.

Her best time from club is a 59.05 from the Speedo Winter Junior Championship West in December.

Nwaizu also won the 100 butterfly at JSerra with a meet-record 55.04.

JSerra’s boys and Corona Santiago’s girls captured the team titles.

The Lions’ boys won the medley (1:38.54) and 200 free (1:26.75) relays. The team also received a sweep in the 50 (20.55) and 100 free (46.41) from Nolan Baker.

Trabuco Hills’ DJ Stupak took the 200 (1:42.80) and 500 (4:34.95) freestyles.
