Fullerton softball shut out by Norco in Michelle Carew Classic title game
    • April 5, 2026

ANAHEIM — The Fullerton softball team fell victim to the long ball and a stingy pitcher for Norco in the championship game of the Michelle Carew Classic on Saturday at Peralta Park.

Norco hit three home runs and UCLA-bound pitcher Coral Williams allowed just two hits in a 7-0 victory over the Indians, the top-ranked team in Orange County.

Fullerton (16-2) still came away with some accolades.

The Indians’ leadoff hitter, Hayley Brock, was named the tournament MVP. Brock was 11 for 18 with four home runs, two doubles and 14 RBIs over five games in the tournament.

The Utah Valley signee had a home run and three RBIs in the Indians’ 12-5 victory over El Modena on Thursday, doubled home the game’s only run in a 1-0 victory over Mater Dei Catholic of Chula Vista on Friday and hit two home runs with four RBIs in a victory over Ganesha 9-4 in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Brock also had one of the Indians’ two hits in the loss to Norco.

“We came up one game short but I think our whole team should be proud of ourselves because we have come so far as a program,” Brock said. “And we just keep getting better and better.”

Angelina Gonzalez hit a two-run home run in the first to give the Cougars (16-2), the defending CIF-SS Division 1 champions, a 2-0 lead.

Isabella Ray hit a solo home run in the fourth and Gonzalez hit a second home run in the fifth to make the score 4-0.

The Indians’ best chance at scoring came in the fourth whey they had runners on first and third with one out. But the Cougars turned a double play to end the threat.

The Indians were retired in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

“You get behind and the game kind of changes,” Fullerton coach Trevor Holton said. “They made a couple of nice plays. We couldn’t change the momentum.”

Holton said he was pleased with his team’s overall performance in the tournament.

The Indians defeated Norco, 3-2, in the prestigious Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz., in March.

Holton is looking forward to the start of league play. The Indians open play in the Empire League against Garden Grove on Wednesday at Garden Grove High School.

“It will be good to get some momentum back,” Holton said.

    In the third-place final:

Ganesha 10, Orange Lutheran 2: The fifth-ranked Lancers trailed by a run through four innings before the Giants broke the game open with a seven-run fifth.

Cate Medvitz and Carlie Snyder drove in one run each for the Lancers.
