Orange Lutheran’s softball team surrendered a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first at JSerra on Tuesday and needed two outs to escape another jam in the inning. That’s when the Lancers’ entire defense gathered in the circle with pitcher Jojo Marsh and assistant coach Ken Briggs.

“It was super uplifting,” Marsh later said of the team huddle. “We just all needed a quick reset, especially me. That (home run) was my fault.”

“We all love each other so much,” the UCLA committed senior added. “We know we have each other’s back.”

Orange Lutheran showed just that. The Lancers rallied from a three-run deficit to edge JSerra 4-3 to take over sole possession of first place in the Trinity League and build momentum for the Michelle Carew Classic this week.

Marsh recovered from JSerra’s three-run first inning to toss three scoreless innings to earn the victory against the Lions (15-4, 0-2), ranked second in Orange County.

Sophomore Rylee Silva didn’t allow a hit in the final three innings to earn the save for the No. 5 Lancers (7-3, 2-0).

Center fielder Mia Scott helped lead the Orange Lutheran offense by driving in the go-ahead run with a two-out single in the fourth inning.

The Lancers scored three of their four runs with two outs.

“We all came together when we needed to,” said Scott, who went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and made a running catch to end the fourth. “After being down by three, we all knew we had to come back.”

Orange Lutheran, the reigning league champion, scored three runs in the second against Abby Ford to tie the score.

After Malia Smith drew a one-out walk and No. 9 batter Maddison Milne reached on an infield single, Sierra Nichols drove in the first run with a single.

Madelyn Armendariz added a RBI groundout to set the stage for Scott’s two-out hit that knotted the score 3-3.

In the fourth, Milne reached on a leadoff bunt single against Liliana Escobar (8-3). Milne made it to third on a sacrifice and groundout before Scott’s go-ahead single.

Silva, the Trinity League’s reigning co-pitcher of the year with Escobar, replaced Marsh in the fifth to face Annabel Raftery, who belted a leadoff home run in the first.

The sophomore recorded the strikeout to spark her strong outing.

“I need to be there for my team,” Silva said. “I love being behind Jo when all this happens. I feel like she’s a big sister to me.”

Orange Lutheran opens the Carew Classic against ML King on Wednesday at Peralta Canyon Park in Anaheim at 3 p.m.

Raftery sent a 2-0 pitch over the fence in left center for her team-leading sixth home run.

JSerra shortstop Angelina Jimenez added a two-run single with two outs in the first to extend the Lions’ lead to 3-0.

“It’s frustrating,” JSerra coach Katie Stith said of the loss. “We just had too many opportunities that we didn’t take advantage of.”

In another Trinity League game, No. 13 Mater Dei surprised No. 6 Santa Margarita 4-0 at Fountain Valley Sports Park.

    In other games Tuesday:

    In the Sunset League:

Marina 9, Huntington Beach 0: Mia Valbuena fired a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and went 3 for 4 for a home run and four RBIs to lead the Vikings (13-3). “One girl wreaking crew,” Marina coach co-coach Dave Hay said.

Cypress 3, Canyon 0: Chach Stamper tossed a six-hitter and Tia Hernandez hit her sixth home run to lead the Centurions (11-5).

    In the Sea View League:
