Beckman QB Noah Nam leads team to state title game with calm confidence
    • December 11, 2025

In 2024, Beckman’s football team won 10 games in a season for the first time since 2011. It also graduated a lot of its key players.

Fortunately for Beckman, one of its returning starters entering this season was at the most critical position on the field.

Quarterback Noah Nam averaged 174 yards passing per game with 12 touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns and just two interceptions as a junior last season.

Nam has been considerably better this season with over double the amount of passing touchdowns and still rushing for 10 touchdowns.

“You can’t overstate the importance of having a returning starter at the most impactful position on the team,” Beckman coach Marcello Giuliano said. “One of his most impressive traits is his football IQ. Plus, he has the temperament of a guy who’s been through some battles and the kids and coaches feed off of that.”

The temperament was noticeable as Nam warmed up before Beckman’s recent championship games. Nam is focused going through his drills but is also relaxed and walking up to people on the sideline with a smile and a handshake.

“He’s the same guy at Wednesday night practice as he is in the huddle when you need a scoring drive in the fourth quarter,” Giuliano said. “That brings a calm confidence to everybody on that sideline.”

In Beckman’s CIF Southern Section championship game against Brea Olinda and in its regional championship game against Hillcrest, Nam was very efficient with the ball while still taking some risks down the field.

Nam completed 80 percent of his passes against Hillcrest with 226 yards and two touchdowns. He also takes care of the ball with just one interception in his last 11 games.

“He has gotten better at taking the smart, aggressive throws rather than settling for checkdowns or scrambles,” Giuliano said. “He’s gotten really good at putting the ball in places where it’s either his guy getting it or nobody getting it. He’s put the ball in some perfect spots on third and fourth downs and that has added a whole new level to his play.”

Nam’s ability to hurt defenses with his arm has opened up running lanes for Beckman’s running backs Makhi Czaykowski and Aidan Tran. Conversely, Beckman’s ability to run for 192 yards per game with 36 touchdowns has opened up the passing game for Nam.

“Defenses have covered down versus spread sets, opening up opportunities for the runners,” Giuliano said. “Defenses have loaded up against running formations opening up Noah’s opportunities in the play action passing game. The balance helps everyone get opportunities.”

Nam and Beckman’s offense face a tough challenge against El Cerrito in the Division 4-A state championship game Saturday at Buena Park High. El Cerrito had three consecutive shutouts earlier this season and has three interceptions in its last two games.

“They have a very good defense — fast and aggressive,” Giuliano said of El Cerrito. “They have a couple of high-impact players in the front that cause a lot of disruption and they’re very athletic on the back end.”
