Peraza lifts Angels in 10th inning, ends seven-game losing streak
    • May 3, 2026

ANAHEIM — Oswald Peraza raised his right hand and flipped his helmet into the air, possibly out of relief as much as celebration, as the Angels ditched their seven-game losing streak Saturday.

Peraza singled to left-center with two outs and the bases loaded in the 10th inning to finish off a 4-3 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday.

With automatic runner Adam Frazier at second base to open the bottom of the 10th, Jorge Soler walked in front of Jo Adell, who singled to load the bases. The Angels nearly blew the opportunity when Josh Lowe lined out to right and Vaughn Grissom popped out to right.

Peraza fell behind 0-2 and fouled off two pitches before he dunked a hit into the outfield grass off Mets right-hander Austin Warren to set off a team celebration that bounced toward shallow center field.

Ryan Zeferjahn (2-1) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the victory, the team’s first since April 22. It was just the second win in 13 games for the Angels.

What seemed like an Angels mistake in the top of the 10th inning proved valuable when Mets leadoff hitter Brett Baty was awarded first base on catcher’s interference from Sebastian Rivero.

Bo Bichette followed by grounding into a 5-4-3 double play and Francisco Alvarez popped out to second base, setting the stage for the bottom of the 10th inning.

The Angels had a chance to end the game in the ninth inning when pinch-hitter Yoan Moncada doubled to right field with one out. But Zach Neto struck out on a check swing and Nolan Schanuel grounded out to second base after an intentional walk to Mike Trout.

The double was Moncada’s first extra-base hit and sixth hit total in 13 games. Neto struck out three times to give him multiple strikeouts in each of the past five contests and 14 total over the stretch.

The Angels went on the attack early with three consecutive two-out singles in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Schanuel started the run, Soler followed and Adell followed with a run-scoring hit, with the threat squashed when Soler was thrown out at third base on the play.

The Mets tied it 1-1 in the third inning against Angels left-hander Reid Detmers when Austin Slater doubled with one out and Bo Bichette brought him home with a two-out single.

The Angels were at it again in the fourth inning when Soler walked with one out, Adell followed with a single and both moved up a base on a wild pitch. Grissom’s single with two outs gave the Angels a 3-1 lead.

Mets right-hander Nolan McLean, one of the top young pitchers in the National League, saw his day end after a season-low four innings and 78 pitches. He allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

As the Angels tried to get as much as possible from Detmers, the Mets finally got to the left-hander in the seventh inning. Mark Vientos led off with a double, Marcus Semien singled and Vientos scored on a fly ball to center by Andy Ibanez.

New York tied it 3-3 on a single to center from Tyrone Taylor. The Mets loaded the bases with one out in the inning before Sam Bachman replaced Detmers and got Bichette to ground into a force out and Juan Soto to strike out swinging.

Detmers gave up three runs on nine hits over 6 ⅓ innings with no walks and eight strikeouts. Bachman also proved to be a bright spot out of a beleaguered bullpen, recording three strikeouts over 1 ⅔ scoreless innings.

More to come on this story.
