    Josh Lowe hits grand slam as Angels sweep against Reds, Brewers

    THE GAMES: Josh Lowe hit a grand slam in the Angels’ 7-4 Cactus League victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday in Tempe, Ariz., while another Angels’ squad beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-3, in Maryvale.

    PITCHING REPORT: In Tempe, right-hander Jack Kochanowicz gave up one run in five innings, with six strikeouts. … Left-hander Brent Suter gave up two homers. Suter has allowed eight runs on 12 hits in 8⅔ innings this spring. … Right-hander Nick Sandlin pitched a scoreless inning. It was Sandlin’s second appearance of the spring. He missed the early portion of the spring because he was rehabbing from offseason elbow surgery. … In Maryvale, right-hander Ryan Johnson gave up one run five innings. Johnson and Kochanowicz are two of the pitchers competing for the No. 5 spot in the Angels’ rotation.

    HITTING REPORT: In Tempe, Lowe hit a grand slam to give the Angels the lead in the seventh inning. Lowe also tripled home a run in the first inning. Lowe, who has been working back from an oblique injury, is just 3 for 14 in major league spring training games. … Mike Trout singled and doubled. He was also called out on strikes and then he used his first ABS challenge of the spring. The call was upheld. Trout is hitting .257 (9 for 35) this spring. He is still looking for his first home run. … Zach Neto had a double, just after extending his at-bat with a successful challenge of a called third strike. Neto was then caught stealing third, with two outs. He slid feet-first. Neto was playing his second game since missing a few days with a sprained left wrist suffered on a head-first slide. … In Maryvale, Jeimer Candelario hit a three-run homer, his second in as many games and his fourth of the spring. Candelario, who has a chance to make the team as the backup at first and third, has a 1.007 OPS in 48 plate appearances this spring. … Minor leaguer Denzer Guzman hit a homer, his second of the spring. He also doubled.

    DEFENSE REPORT: In Tempe, catcher Travis d’Arnaud threw out a runner trying to steal third. … Left fielder Yolmer Sanchez made a nice catch of a line drive headed over his head, saving a run.
