Cal State Fullerton men top Cal Poly to cap strong week
    • January 25, 2026

SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball team avenged an earlier loss to complete a strong week.

Christian Williams scored 26 points and Joshua Ward added 18 to lead the Titans to a 93-78 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday evening. Ward (6 for 11 from the field, 2 for 4 from 3-point range) filled up the stat sheet by adding eight rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Williams shot 8 for 16 from the field (4 for 10 from behind the arc) and made all six of his free throws to go with four rebounds and three steals.

Kendrick De Luna and Landon Seaman each added 10 points and Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro contributed nine points and six rebounds for the Titans (10-12 overall, 5-5 Big West), who avenged a 94-91 home loss to the Mustangs (7-14, 3-6) in the conference opener in December.

The teams traded points early in the rematch, before Fullerton pulled ahead to stay on a Ward 3-pointer midway through the first half. The visitors went on a 17-7 run after that and turned 11 first-half turnovers for Cal Poly into 14 points on their way to a 46-34 halftime lead.

The Titans, who were coming off a home win against rival Long Beach State on Thursday, added to their lead with a 47-point second half, when Williams did much of his damage with 17 points. Fullerton shot 57% from the field after halftime and led by double digits for the final 14 minutes. The Titans shot 19 for 22 from the free-throw line in the second half to keep Cal Poly at a distance.

Cayden Ward scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Cal Poly, which lost its third straight game. Hamad Mousa scored 15 points to go with a game-high nine rebounds and five assists, while Jackson Mosley had a career-high 15 points.

One notable difference from the earlier meeting was the job Fullerton did against Cal Poly’s Peter Bandelj. Bandelj scored 37 points and made nine 3-pointers in the first game but was held to six points on 2-for-4 shooting (0 for 1 from 3-point range) in 26 minutes on Saturday.
