Inclusive Sports Day gets everyone moving, having fun
    • April 23, 2026

It was billed as Inclusive Sports Day, but the dance party with a DJ spinning records might have been the biggest hit.

More than 250 students from Edison, Ocean View and Westminster high schools played games involving soccer, baseball, volleyball — and danced —  with members of Westcliff University’s various sports teams in an annual event that brings the groups together for a day of fun and making connections.

Organizers said they see a lasting benefit from the peer-to-peer interaction for the high school students.

“The needle really moves in their development when they’re with their peer groups,” said Matt Lance, founder and CEO of the Inclusive Sports Foundation, which has a mission to provide children with special needs with “much-needed physical activity and inclusive social interaction while also building compassion and empathy in youth/collegiate athletes.”

“We want them to enjoy the day and have fun,” Lance said, “we want them to feel special today.”

This is the fourth year the Huntington Beach Union High School District and Westcliff University have partnered with the Inclusive Sports Foundation.

Anthony Lee, president and CEO of Westcliff University, said one of the school’s core values is giving back to the community.

“I think for the students this will be an experience they will remember for a long time,” he said, “that they can make a difference in the world.”
