    CIF State boys soccer: Previews of finals for University, Los Alamitos, Mater Dei

    CIF STATE BOYS SOCCER FINALS

    At Natomas High School, Sacramento 

    FRIDAY’S GAME 

    DIVISION IV

    University (18-5-1) vs. Del Mar (17-6-3), 3 p.m.

    Outlook: This is the first season for CIF State Championships to follow the CIF regional playoffs. University beat Granite Hills, 2-0, in the Southern California Regional Division IV championship game. The Trojans had earlier defeated Granite Hills, 3-0, in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 final. University takes a 10-game winning streak into the state final. The Trojans are peaking at the right time after finishing fourth in the Pacific Coast League. Kasra Ghoddousi, a senior, has seven goals with 13 assists. Seniors Rayan Heyati has scored nine goals with seven assists, and Jake Rabold has scored nine goals with nine assists. Del Mar of San Jose takes a seven-game winning streak into the game. The Dons won the CIF Central Coast Division III championship.

    SATURDAY’S GAMES

    DIVISION III

    Los Alamitos (18-15-2) vs. Watsonville (22-1-2), 3 p.m.

    Live streaming: NFHS Network

    Outlook: Los Alamitos, which finished fourth in the Sunset League, won the CIF-SS Division 3 championship in an odd way. The Griffins’ opponent for the final, Calabasas, forfeited the match because it had learned of an ineligible player on its team. Los Alamitos won its first-round game in the regional also by forfeit. The Griffins then defeated Mt. Carmel, 2-0, and Bishop Amat, 2-1, to reach the state championships. Ethan Phung, a senior, scored both goals for Los Alamitos in its win over Bishop Amat. Phung has scored eight goals over the past seven games. Junior goalkeeper Aidan Hernandez has five shutouts over his past seven games. Watsonville won the CIF Central Coast Section Division II championship. Diego Guillen has scored 24 goals for the Wildcatz.

    DIVISION I

    Mater Dei (20-1-3) vs. Everett Alvarez (25-1), 8 p.m.

    Outlook: Mater Dei won the Trinity League championship and beat league rival Orange Lutheran, 2-0, in the CIF-SS Open Division championship game. Mater Dei beat Del Norte, 1-0, in the CIF SoCal Regional Division I championship game. Senior Santiago Schelotto leads Mater Dei with 16 goals, and senior James Obleda has 12 goals and a team-high 13 assists. Senior Matthew Miranda has 11 goals with five assists, and sophomore Kai Cowan has 11 assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Enriquez has been steady for the Monarchs. Everett Alvarez of Salinas has scored 93 goals and given up only 15 this season.
