    Status Update: Rove opens EV charging facility with Gelson’s market in Costa Mesa

    Rove has opened its second charging station in Costa Mesa, offering a fast-charge hub plus a mini market called ReCharge by Gelson’s.

    Rove provides onsite staff during peak charging hours, plus an indoor lounge, free Wi-Fi, restrooms, nighttime security, a shaded canopy, and 40 DC fast chargers.

    The 5,384-square-foot micro-market, ReCharge by Gelson’s sells produce and hot food items such as breakfast burritos and sandwiches, chicken wings and tenders, pizza, hot dogs, soups and other small bites.

    Customers will also find bread, beverages, snacks, and pasta at the market.

    Rove opened its first fast-charge facility in 2024 in Santa Ana. The startup is looking to add another four charging centers in Southern California near heavily traveled freeways. Three of Rove’s future centers will be near freeway interchanges. Others in the works are coming to 1335 W. 6th St. in Corona near the 15 and 91 interchange; 1620 W. Wardlow Ave. in Long Beach near the 405 and 710 interchange; and 1861 190th St. in Torrance near the 405 and 110 interchange.

    Doggie daycare open in Anaheim

    Dogdrop, a daycare for Fido and his pals, is open in Anaheim, just a short walk from Angel Stadium.

    Adam Bennett built out the facility at Griffis Platinum Triangle on Gene Autry Way, opening in late 2025.

    Prices range from $50-$65 for five hours of daycare per month up to $800 monthly for a “fanatic” or unlimited customer.

    Trader Joe’s coming to Anaheim Hills

    Trader Joe’s is expanding in north Orange County, opening sometime later this year in Anaheim Hills.

    Store 295 is taking the place of a former Big Lots at the shopping center at the corner of S. Fairmont Boulevard and East Santa Ana Canyon Road.

    The Monrovia-based grocery store isn’t saying when the store will open, only indicating it’s “coming soon.” Locals, keep us in the loop as changes evolve by emailing sgowen@scng.com.

    Trader Joe’s has expanded its reach in the past year, opening several stores in Orange County and Southern California. Costa Mesa recently got its second TJ’s, and the Orange store expanded from a small space into the shuttered CVS next door. Another store opened in Ladera Ranch.

    New CEO for Meals on Wheels OC

    Meals on Wheels Orange County has a new president and chief executive officer.

    Madelynn Hirneise, currently the CEO at Families Forward, joins the Anaheim-based nonprofit May 27, succeeding CEO Holly Hagler after she retires.

    “Madelynn brings exactly the kind of leadership our organization needs for its next chapter,” said Randy A. Platt, the board chairman. “Her work supporting families experiencing homelessness reflects a deep understanding of how critical stability, dignity, community support, and essential services are in people’s lives. Those same values are at the heart of our mission to nourish the lives of older adults.”

    Hagler, who spent 15 years at Meals on Wheels OC, led the transition of the organization known as SeniorServ to Meals on Wheels OC. She will remain as an adviser through June 30.

    Hirneise has been with Families Forward for 14 years, according to her LinkedIn profile, with six years as its CEO and previously a senior director for Strategic Partnerships.

    On the move

    Mwayi Kanjadza is the new chief financial officer at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa. She has been the acting CFO since October 2025, and previously was controller at the university. “Her deep expertise in financial management and her commitment to our mission have already made a meaningful impact, and we are confident in her continued leadership as we look to the future,” said university President Michael J. Beals Kanjadza has 15 years of senior leadership experience in higher education, nonprofits, public service and banking.

    C3 Tech, a Santa Ana-based provider of information and office technology services, has promoted three of its associates to equity partners, expanding its family-ownership structure. The company, founded in 1994 by Tony and Tricia Sanchez, said that increasing the leadership stakeholders helps the company set itself apart from many tech-based firms that often are acquired by bigger companies. “Expanding ownership from within the team reflects our commitment to keep building here in Orange County and continue investing in local employees and businesses,” said Killian Lee, who was promoted to equity partner along with Davis Tran and Samantha Sanchez-Lee. Tran will continue to oversee the delivery of technical services as chief operating officer. Samantha Sanchez-Lee as partner leads business development and community initiatives, and Killian Lee joins the firm as a partner from GALLO.

    Ashley Bolduc at the law firm Cummins & White has been promoted to equity partner. She is a member of the firm’s corporate and transactional practice and joined Cummins & White in 2017.

    Good works

    Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast raised at least $74,000 at its annual Women of Greatness Brunch. The organization also honored chef Glenda Galvan-Garcia and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County for their work helping families gain better access to food.

    Kaiser Permanente in Orange County has given roughly $3.53 million in community health grants to local organizations in the region. Among the recipients are Unidos South Orange County, Coalition of Orange County Community Health Centers, Community Health Initiative of Orange County, Orangewood Foundation, Human Options, Orange County United Way, Illumination Foundation, Goodwill Industries of Orange County, Cal State Fullerton Philanthropic Foundation, South County Outreach, Meals On Wheels Orange County, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, Community Action Partnership of Orange County and Orange County Department of Education – Orange County Staff Well‑Being Initiative.
