Harbor Miller looks to fill in for shorthanded Galaxy
    • March 13, 2026

The Galaxy will be shorthanded in attacking options as the schedule returns to Major League Soccer on Saturday at home against Sporting Kansas City.

Joseph Paintsil (thigh) is sidelined for an indefinite time. Gabriel Pec will be out serving a one-game suspension following two yellow cards last Saturday against the Colorado Rapids.

One willing and eager option could be Harbor Miller. If anybody is ready, it’s Miller.

Miller, who is mostly in a fullback position, entered Wednesday’s CONCACAF Champions Cup game against Mount Pleasant FA and settled into spot out on the wing, usually occupied by Paintsil.

“The biggest message (from the staff) to me was go in, bring something, add some energy,” Miller said of his sub stint. “I think I did that as well as I could and we ended up scoring a few more goals after that.”

Miller himself had a goal, but it was wiped off due to a handball in the build-up.

“To be honest, I didn’t even see the handball,” Miller said. “We’ve been working a lot on moving after you pass the ball and what’s next after you give it, right? That’s how we’re going to break teams down that sit in a low block.

“I primarily play that fullback, but last year, I was used on the left in kind of a hybrid role. When Coach (Greg Vanney) needs me there, I’m going to bring something different to the group and bring some energy and some life that hopefully can give us some more results.”

Miller, a Galaxy Academy product, made 12 appearances last season and scored his first MLS goal.

“It’s not easy, no matter who you are, playing a lot for a team one season and next season not playing as much in the first few games, it’s tough,” Miller said. “I want to be on the team and I want to contribute to the team, but I’m also young (18) and I have to learn that I have to be patient and I respect Greg and I respect his decision and I think he does have the best interest for me.”

Miller has come on as a late substitute in two Champions Cup games and one MLS game this season.

Including Saturday, the Galaxy are facing a stretch of three games in nine days, which includes a trip to Jamaica for Thursday’s return leg in Champions Cup and then a short turnaround for a trip to Portland for a game March 22.

“It’s tough and a lot of the older guys, they’ve played a lot more, so I think being a younger guy, what I can do is be there whenever the guys need it,” Miller said. “I’m fresh. I’m ready to play whenever my name is called, whether in the starting group or not.”

    Injury updates

Paintsil’s injury was officially ruled a thigh injury. He will likely be out for the rest of the month. Chris Rindov (leg) and Emiro Garces (foot) are also out Saturday.
