Artemi Panarin, Anton Forsberg lead Kings’ shutout of Oilers
    • April 11, 2026

LOS ANGELES –– Artemi Panarin’s first-period goal and 60 minutes of grand larceny from goalie Anton Forsberg were all the Kings needed to take two immense points from their tormentors from north of the border Saturday afternoon at Crypto.com Arena.

They topped the same Edmonton Oilers that knocked them out of the first round of the playoffs four years in a row, 1-0, in a match with massive implications for both sides.

As the game ended, the Kings moved three points clear of the Nashville Predators for the second wild-card berth and within two points of the Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights, who are in a points tie for second place in the Pacific Division. They’re three behind Edmonton for the division lead with a game in hand heading into the final three dates on their calendar.

Panarin scored the game’s only goal, one of two newcomers that buoyed the Kings on Saturday. The hot hand of Forsberg returned between the pipes, making 27 saves in his third shutout as a King. This was the Kings’ final regular-season home game of the year, and should they end up missing the postseason, it was captain Anže Kopitar’s final game at Crypto.com Arena.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This has been my home for 20 years,” said an emotional Kopitar addressing the crowd after the game.

Connor Ingram has taken the Oilers’ net and stopped 19 pucks.

The Oilers had a stranglehold on the final frame, tilting the ice completely – but not scoring on Forsberg – until McDavid took a penalty. The Oilers killed it, but failed to produce an equalizer despite possessing the puck relentlessly in the final 20 minutes.

With that penalty with 5:33 to play, the Kings got their first power play not only of the game but of their past three outings, with their last man advantage coming late in the second period against Toronto on April 4.

Analytically and territorially, the Oilers carried the first period of play while the Kings dominated the second, yet through 40 minutes there was but one goal on the board.

Both teams started on time in a feisty, competitive first period befitting of both the rivalry and stakes of the contest. Each team put nine shots on net, though the Oilers had higher quality looks. Matching minors were the only penalties in a period during which the Kings scored the only goal.

Panarin was a one-man attack 7:34 into the showdown, when he finished a breakaway high to the glove side after pickpocketing Evan Bouchard at the defensive blue line.
