Angel City FC’s Kennedy Fuller feels ‘a little old’ at 19
    • May 1, 2026

Angel City Football Club experienced the highs of a three-game winning streak to start the new season.

Now, Angel City is battling through the other end, having lost consecutive games heading into Saturday’s meeting against the Utah Royals.

“Our thought process is like ups and downs are going to happen,” midfielder Kennedy Fuller said. “So we’re looking more on the front foot, like we have a big month. May is a lot of games, we have a lot of points that are up for grabs, so we’re looking forward.

“We’ve been focusing in training what we’ve not been getting right and we’ve really been nailing that, so I think, like I said, focusing on this big month, I think we have six or seven games in the month of May, so how many points can we can grab from that.”

Angel City (3-2, nine points) has six games in May, with four at home at BMO Stadium.

The concern of the early season has been the way the last two games have ended. Before the international break, Angel City allowed the winning goal to the Orlando Pride in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time. On Sunday, Portland scored in the 76th minute and then again in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Angel City did manage to score in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

“Our motto the last couple of weeks have been ‘control the controllables,’” Fuller said. “What can we focus on? We can’t focus on the refs, the pitch, the weather. We just really have to focus on what we can control and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Fuller, 19, reached an early professional milestone, recording her 50th career appearance. Fuller bypassed college to sign with Angel City ahead of the 2024 season.

“I was calling myself ‘Unc,’” Fuller said. “I’m a little bit surprised as well. It’s so different. This team, from my first year to this year, is so different. We’re such a young team and it’s such a fun team to play with. I feel a little old because I’ve been here forever.

“I feel like a lot of the team that I’ve had the first year is not the same, so I definitely feel like one of the veterans at Angel City.”

Fuller was one of 10 Angel City players that departed for national team commitments during the international break. Fuller joined the U.S. U-20 national team.

Last season, Angel City coach Alex Straus moved her out to a winger position and that’s where she’s been so far this season.

“I think the thing that I’ve improved on the most has been my confidence on both ends of the ball. I think I came in my first year, not really knowing what I was getting myself into and I went obviously through a bunch of ups and downs, just being a pro … being a rookie is super hard,” Fuller said. “I moved away from my family and my friends and my hometown at 16. I missed a lot of things, but I think I slowly started to gain my confidence and really step into the role of being a professional and being in L.A.”
