Galaxy look to snap 20-game league road winless streak
    • April 11, 2026

Before the attention can be set firmly on Wednesday’s CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal second leg against Toluca FC, the Galaxy have another opportunity to snap their road woes in MLS play.

The Galaxy, who are 0-1-1 on the road this season in league play, went winless on the road last season (0-10-7). Their last league win away from home came in the penultimate road game of the 2024 season on Oct. 2.

It’s just another weird stat that the Galaxy have accumulated in recent years.

The Galaxy (1-3-2, five points) are in 12th place in the Western Conference and visit 11th-place Austin FC on Saturday afternoon. Austin FC won both meetings against the Galaxy last season.

“Honestly, I hate losing. I hate losing so much,” midfielder Marco Reus said after last Saturday’s loss against Minnesota United. “It starts for me in training. It (starts) in two against two, three against three, four against four, you have to love winning and to give everything in this moment. Those simple details make a difference.”

If you want to know how things are going, look at Wednesday’s first leg against Toluca. The Galaxy went into Mexico and scored two goals, with road goals used as the tiebreaker, that could be important for the second leg. But the Galaxy also managed to allow four goals. There is still a chance that they can advance, but it would take a collective effort to shut Toluca down.

While the results have not mounted, Galaxy coach Greg Vanney remains confident in the group.

“I think, you know, the results have been the results, but in many of our results, we haven’t been outplayed,” Vanney said. “We have more chances on goal. We have more of the ball, more whatever you generally want to look at as a statistic to look like the team that’s more in control. We’ve had that in most of the games. It’s been our failure to execute in the two boxes that has hurt us in some of these games.

“The belief is there. It’s about the extra and we talk about it. It’s the extra percent here and there and little things through the course of the game and details and a little more fight and nastiness through the course of the game it takes sometimes to get over the hump just to win games.”

“We need to execute better on both ends and, if we do that, we’re going to turn all these things into results. The numbers are there in terms of our performances, but we’re not scoring goals when we need to and we’re conceding goals too easily.”

That reads a lot like the 2025 script.

“I don’t care about last season, it’s not in our heads,” Reus said. “We have to change simple things. We are struggling at the moment.

“Every game you have the chance to win, with this squad, you have the chance to win,” Reus said. “At the moment, we are struggling to put everything together. We have to work so hard to win a game. Sometimes, we make one mistake and we’re 1-0 down. Then we come back, another mistake and we’re 2-1 down. It’s hard. Then it comes a mental thing. We are capable to win every game. It’s not long until May, until the (World Cup) break and we have to win games. It has to start now.”

The Galaxy will have two more road games this month: FC Dallas on April 18 and the Columbus Crew on April 22.
