    Baseball roundup: Servite beats Santa Margarita; Orange Lutheran advances to NHSI final

    Jaden Liu hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning to give Servite a 5-4 win over Santa Margarita on Friday in a Trinity League game at Servite High.

    Servite (9-4, 2-1), ranked No. 7 in Orange County, won the season series against No. 3 Santa Margarita (11-4, 1-2) for the first time since 2022.

    Liu had two hits for the Friars and John Sullivan added two hits with a RBI. Mikey Cabral went 3 for 4 with a RBI and Jack Gogan threw three scoreless innings to get the win on the mound.

    Tyler Unter threw five scoreless innings before surrendering a pair of runs in the sixth for Santa Margarita. Chase Marlow went 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored. Tyler George had a double and a RBI.

    Servite plays a three-game league series against JSerra next week. Santa Margarita will play a three-game series against Mater Dei next week beginning on Monday.

    In the National High School Invitational:

    Orange Lutheran 2, Casteel (Arizona) 1: Zion Avina hit a walk-off single for Orange Lutheran to beat Casteel of Arizona and send the Lancers into the championship game of the National High School Invitational in Cary, N.C.

    Orange Lutheran will play the tournament’s defending champion, Venice of Florida, in the championship game Saturday.

    Eric Zdunek had a double with a RBI for Orange Lutheran (6-1). Paul Mittman got the win in relief.

    Cooper Sides allowed no earned runs in five innings with three strikeouts for the Lancers. It was the first outing of the season for Sides, a transfer who became eligible Friday with the end of the sit-out period.

    In the South Coast League:

    Trabuco Hills 11, San Clemente 4: Everett Schweer had an excellent game on the mound and at the plate for Trabuco Hills in a win over San Clemente.

    Schweer allowed just one hit and one earned run in five innings to get the win for Trabuco Hills (5-7, 2-1). The junior also went 3 for 3 with five RBIs at the plate.

    Josh Fitch had a home run with two RBIs for the Mustangs and Daniel Van De Kreeke had two hits including a double.

    Owen Goulet had two walks and added a RBI for San Clemente (9-6, 1-2).

    Aliso Niguel 3, Tesoro 3 (10 innings): Aliso Niguel and Tesoro played 10 innings before the game was ruled a tie.

    Aliso Niguel (10-3-2, 1-1-1) and Tesoro each won a game against each other earlier in the series this week.

    Both teams got dominant pitching performances from their bullpens. Freshman Ryan Maguire threw five scoreless innings for Aliso Niguel, allowed one hit and had nine strikeouts. Senior lefty Nick Bull threw five scoreless innings with two hits and five strikeouts for Tesoro.

    Hudson Covington had a double with a RBI for Aliso Niguel and Danzel Azuma had two hits. Chase Vlahos had two hits with a RBI for Tesoro and Eli Martin drove in a run.

    In the Sea View League:

    San Juan Hills 3, Mission Viejo 1: Hudson Doss hit a two-run walk-off home run for San Juan Hills in a league win over Mission Viejo.

    Bryce Greinke had a RBI for San Juan Hills (11-7, 2-1) and Brodie Corpuz had two hits. Carson Chmura allowed one run in 5⅓ innings for the Stallions and Alex Landie got the win in relief.

    Capistrano Valley 5, El Toro 4: Trey Schild drew a bases-loaded walk to score the go-ahead run for Capistrano Valley in the sixth inning.

    Brock Rainis went 2 for 2 with two stolen bases and two RBIs for Capo Valley (5-8, 2-1). Schild also stole a base and had a single for the Cougars.

    Torrey Tombleson had a double with three RBIs for El Toro (5-7-1, 1-2) and Brayden Penrod drove in a run.

    In the Sunset League:

    Newport Harbor 2, Edison 1 (8 innings): Cameron Hatfield drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning to give Newport Harbor the series sweep over Edison.

    Keoni Wun had a double with a RBI for Newport Harbor (12-2, 7-2) and Henry Mann added a double. Ryan Williams allowed one run in six innings for the Sailors with four strikeouts and Grant Horsley pitched two shutout innings of relief to get the win.

    Los Alamitos 2, Marina 0: Los Alamitos scored two runs in the sixth inning to complete the series sweep over Marina.

    Easton Kaesman hit a run-scoring single for Los Alamitos (11-4, 8-1) and Rowan Shelley hit a sacrifice fly. Logan Anderson pitched 5⅓ shutout innings with four strikeouts. Henry Ziegler pitched 1⅔ innings with two strikeouts to get the save.

    Mason Nolan had three hits with a double and a stolen base for Marina (3-10, 1-8).

    In the Coast League:

    Estancia 8, La Quinta 0: Carlos Hauser got the win on the mound and had a double with two RBIs for Estancia in a shutout win.

    Sean Sweeney went 2 for 2 with a triple and a RBI for Estancia (4-7, 4-0). Brooks Harder had a double with a RBI for the Eagles and Ramon Perez had two RBIs.

    In the Empire League:

    Costa Mesa 7, Laguna Hills 1: Will Morales allowed one run and had nine strikeouts for Costa Mesa.

    Wylan Rottschafer pitched 2⅔ shutout innings to get the save with six strikeouts and he had two hits with a stolen base. Felix Tiquia had two hits with a double and two RBIs for Costa Mesa (10-4, 2-2).

    Luke Hobbis and Grady Jackson each had a double with a RBI. Noah Uribe went 3 for 3.

    In the Grove League: 

    Orange 13, Saddleback 1: Orange got a strong pitching performance and hit two home runs in a rout of Saddleback.

    Alex Mendoza had a home run, a double and three RBIs for Orange (9-5, 4-0). Evan Gonzalez had a home run with two RBIs and Ethan Giraldo had a double with two RBIs.

    In the Orange League:

    Santiago 15, Santa Ana Valley 12: Santiago scored 10 runs in the seventh inning to beat Santa Ana Valley in a high-scoring game.

    Chris Arceo went 3 for 3 with a triple, three stolen bases and three RBIs for Santiago (2-11, 1-3). Matthew Rubin had two hits with a double and three RBIs.

    Jairo Camino had a triple with a RBI and Tomas Daniel Romero had three RBIs.
