Firefighters get 35% containment of the Carbon fire in Brea area
    • April 26, 2026

The wind-driven Carbon fire in undeveloped hills in the Brea area was slowed down overnight in part by rain, with higher humidity also helping firefighters.

As of Sunday morning, April 26, the fire in county territory outside the city was 35% contained, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Sean Doran said.

“The weather was favorable for us last night in addition to crews working through the night,” he said.

Forward progression of the fire, which had scorched at least 200 acres, was declared stopped by 1:47 a.m. Sunday, April 26, the Orange County Fire Authority said.

On Sunday, firefighters continued working to further contain the blaze. That effort included ground crews, bulldozers and engines, the captain said.

“Additional resources are available as needed, including air operations,” Doran said. “Currently, we’re flying the fire with a drone to precisely direct crews to the hot spots.”

Evacuation orders were lifted for Olinda Village and Hollydale, Doran said.

The fire’s cause was under investigation.

The blaze was first reported around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, on the north side of Carbon Canyon Road, according to Watch Duty, a nonprofit app that tracks wildfires.
