‘Sex and the City’ creator’s new Netflix series to be set in Napa Valley
    • March 25, 2026

A legendary television producer who sets his wildly popular programs in some of the world’s most recognizable locales has turned his attention to Napa Valley.

Darren Star, the creator of  “Sex and the City” and “Emily In Paris,” has been tapped by Netflix to write a new wine-centered romantic comedy, “Uncorked,” that promises to be a perfect pairing of comedy and drama, according to the streaming giant.

Star will executive produce “Uncorked” alongside co-showrunner and writer David Schulner (“New Amsterdam”), and Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns (“Emily In Paris”) of Counterpart Studios, according to a March 18 news release from Netflix.

“We’re thrilled that Darren and David have partnered on this new series, which tells the story of romance and redemption set in the beautiful Napa Valley that we believe will connect with audiences around the world,” said Netflix Vice President Tracey Pakosta in a news release.

The sentiment is shared by the region’s official promotional arm, Visit Napa Valley, which said in a March 20 email to The Press Democrat that the series has the potential to introduce new audiences to the many layers of Napa Valley.

“We’re excited to see Napa Valley featured in a new Netflix series and introduced to audiences around the world in a fresh, creative way,” said Linsey Gallagher, president and CEO of Visit Napa Valley. “Our region offers a unique blend of wine, food, culture, and natural beauty that provides a rich backdrop for storytelling — and we know viewers will be inspired to experience it for themselves.”

“Uncorked” will follow a talented but self-destructive winemaker who returns to Napa “for her second chance at love, legacy and that elusive 100 point wine,” according to Netflix.

For Star and Schulner, the journey so far has included “copious amounts of day drinking in the name of meticulous research.”

“Darren and I wanted to create a series that explores what happens when your greatest passion is also your Achilles’ heel,” Schulner said in the news release. “With Napa’s beauty and bounty as our setting, we hope the audience never wants to leave.”

Star’s titles on Netflix — “Emily In Paris,” “Sex and the City” and its two films, as well as the comedic series’ “Younger” and “Uncoupled” — generated 435 million views in the last three years. Star will continue to oversee “Emily In Paris,” which was recently renewed for a sixth season after Season 5 spent five weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list, the streaming service said.
