    Softball roundup: Huntington Beach’s Bree Carlson hits three home runs in win

    Bree Carlson belted three home runs and drove in six runs to lead Huntington Beach’s softball team to a 20-0 victory at Fountain Valley in the Sunset League on Tuesday.

    Carlson, a junior who is committed to Utah, went 3 for 5 in the five-inning game shortened by the mercy run.

    A first-team All-County selection last season, Carlson entered the game hitting .400 with one home run and seven RBIs for No. 21 Huntington Beach (4-6, 2-2).

    Last season, she hit a school-record 11 home runs.

    La Habra 9, Pacifica 4: Sienna commit Alyssa Hernandez hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead the host No. 6 Highlanders (12-3, 1-1) past the No. 3 Mariners (10-6, 1-1). Makenna Caffrey added three hits for La Habra, which plays at Canyon on Thursday.

    Freshman Jenna Valladares had three hits for Pacifica.

    Cypress 8, El Modena 2: Junior Chach Stamper scattered six hits and struck out five to lead the host No. 11 Centurions (10-4, 1-0), who play at Pacifica on Thursday. Kylie Tafua had two doubles No. 5 El Modena (7-5, 2-1).
