    • March 16, 2026

THE GAME: Minor leaguer Zach Humphreys hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh and a game-winning single in the ninth to help the Angels to a 6-5 victory over the Rockies on Sunday in Tempe, Ariz. Bryce Teodosio scored the winning run after reaching on an infield hit and stealing second.

PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Austin Gordon gave up one run in two innings, starting a game that the Angels used mostly to get innings for their key relievers. Gordon was the Angels’ fourth-round pick in 2024. … Left-hander Drew Pomeranz gave up three runs while recording one out. He gave up two hits and walked three. … Right-hander Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning. Yates, who is the leading candidate to open the season as the Angels closer, has allowed one earned run in four innings this spring. … Right-hander Chase Silseth pitched a perfect inning. Since giving up six runs in his first game of the spring, Silseth has allowed one run in his last six innings, with eight strikeouts. … Right-hander Jordan Romano pitched a perfect inning. … Right-hander Hunter Strickland, who was pitching for the first time in a week, worked a scoreless inning. Strickland has not allowed a run in four innings this spring. … Right-hander Nick Sandlin gave up a run on an infield hit and a walk in his first game of the spring. He got whiffs on all four sliders he threw. Sandlin was behind the other pitchers because he had elbow surgery last fall. Sandlin has a career 3.19 ERA in parts of five big league seasons, so he’s a strong candidate for the big league bullpen if he’s healthy. … Left-hander Samy Natera Jr. pitched a scoreless inning, including a strikeout of 2024 No. 2 overall pick Charlie Condon.

HITTING REPORT: Jorge Soler had two hits, including a double down the right field line. Soler is hitting .393 (11 for 28) with an 1.179 OPS this spring. … Adam Frazier singled. He’s hitting .348 (8 for 23) this spring. Frazier and Oswald Peraza are the two leading candidates to win the starting second base job now that Christian Moore has been sent down. … Jeimer Candelario hit a two-run homer, his second homer of the spring. He has a .977 OPS in 39 plate appearances this spring. Candelario, a non-roster invitee, has a chance to win an Opening Day roster spot as the backup at first and third. … Bryce Teodosio, who has been trying to work on bunting for hits, attempted one. It went straight back to the mound and the pitcher threw him out. He also beat out a ground ball for an infield hit in the ninth.

DEFENSE REPORT: Teodosio, the center fielder, broke the wrong way on a line drive that ended up sailing over his head, for a double. Later in the game, he made an over-the-shoulder catch at the warning track. … Catcher Sebastian Rivero threw out a runner trying to steal second. Shortstop Chris Taylor made a nice play to catch the one-hop throw and put down the quick tag.

UP NEXT: Angels (RHP George Klassen) at Athletics (TBD), Monday, 1:05 p.m. PT, Hohokam Stadium, Mesa, Ariz.
