Tyson Espy’s first professional goal leads Orange County Soccer Club to win
    • March 22, 2026

It was a memorable night for the local kid Tyson Espy.

Espy, 16, a Dana Point native, joined Orange County Soccer Club last August after time with the LAFC Academy.

Saturday, Espy had a milestone night, scoring his first professional goal, leading Orange County Soccer Club to a 1-0 win against Colorado Switchbacks FC.

“It’s a great feeling,” Espy said of his 89th-minute winner. I’m very proud of myself and I’m very proud of the team. It (the goal) means a lot. I’m very excited, and it’s definitely a big achievement in my career and another step down the pathway, another building block, and another big accomplishment.

“The ball came in, and I saw it just fall in front of me, and my mind went blank, and I hit it on the volley, and it went in, and then I froze, and then I saw my teammates, and the excitement around the stadium.

Espy has been a fixture for the U.S. youth levels, playing at the U-15 and U-16 levels. He was also a member of the U.S. U-17 team that qualified for the upcoming U-17 World Cup. He’s also considered one of the top youth products in the U.S. youth systems.

He made his first start with OCSC in the season opener, March 7

“We’re very pleased and very proud of him,” OCSC coach Danny Stone said of Espy. “I think the whole group tonight is ecstatic for him to have that moment.

“I felt it was a strong defensive performance from the team tonight in the game overall, and Tyson played a very good part in that from the team’s point of view. But it’s obviously outstanding for him to to have a great moment that I’m sure he’ll remember for, I hope for a long, long time. To get your first professional goal and to score his first goal for Orange County in a one-nil win at home.”
