Status Update: $1 million luxury bed maker opens showroom at South Coast Plaza
    • March 16, 2026

A luxury bedmaker from Sweden known for its $1 million bed is open at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.

The 2,500-square-foot Hästens store includes a showroom, a private bed-testing “Sleep Spa” and a design studio where customers can plan their custom beds.

Hästens beds are among the priciest in the world. Its Grand Vividus bed set costs $1 million and includes a mattress, headboard and base.

This particular bed set is handmade with leather, wood, suede and brass adornments. In an Architectural Digest article, the company explained that the Grand Vividus — stuffed with horsehair, wool and cotton — takes more than 600 hours to assemble and hand stitch.

The suite of beds range in price from $8,500 up to millionaire status.

In addition to its actual beds, the store features the Nordic furniture of Bernadotte & Kylberg, bed linens, quilts, pillows and accessories.

The company dates to the mid-1800s when it made saddles. By the 1900s, Hästens had pivoted to bedmaking, supplying its luxury goods to Sweden’s royal family.

The showroom is located in the Crate & Barrel wing, Level 2.
