Matthew Hull didn’t post the score for his Corona del Mar boys golf team but his performance still generated a buzz on the high school scene.

The senior recently shot a course-record 12-under-par 60 in his opening round at the Toyota Tour Cup at The Golf Club at Terra Lago in Indio.

The SCPGA Jr. Tour event featured several top junior-level players.

Hull, who signed with UCLA, carded a 68 in the second round and claimed his first Toyota Tour Cup victory at 16-under-par.

A CIF State qualifier last season, Hull is the grandson of late Bruins football coach Terry Donahue.

“He’s motivated to do well with the (Corona del Mar) varsity team and hopefully make a run as an individual in CIF, regionals and state,” Corona del Mar coach Steve Conti said of Hull.

Earlier this high school season, Hull placed third at the Ayala Spring Classic. He carded a 4-under-par 70 to finish behind reigning O.C. player of the year Brayden Jones of Mater Dei (68) and Santa Margarita freshman Oscar Liang (69).

Corona del Mar’s Steven Yang, who is committed to UC Irvine, tied for 10th with a 73. The Sea Kings placed third in the team competition behind Santa Margarita and Sunny Hills.

“Our team has some high-level talent and we have depth,” said Conti, whose team is 3-0 in the Sunset League.
