‘Harry Potter’ Hogwarts doughnuts are working magic for Krispy Kreme
    • August 20, 2025

When Krispy Kreme’s new collection of “Harry Potter” doughnuts sell out, the Hufflepuff flavor is often the last one on the shelves.

That news might not surprise fans of the series of fantasy novels by R.K. Rowling.

Krispy Kreme came out with a Houses of Hogwarts collection on Monday in collaboration with a licensing arm of Warner Bros. Discovery.

The collection features five doughnuts that sell for about $3.29 each or a dozen assortment for $25.99 in their own specially designed box.

The Griffyndor Doughnut is an unglazed shell with cookie butter filling, red icing and Biscoff cookie crumble.

The Slytherin Doughnut is Original Glazed with chocolate and green buttercream frosting.

The Hufflepuff Doughnut features brown butter toffee-flavored custard filling and yellow icing with a chocolate drizzle.

The Ravenclaw Doughnut is Original Glazed with blueberry icing.

There is also a Sorting Hat doughnut with one of four fillings dyed in the color of the Hogwarts houses. It’s not included in the Hogwarts assortment but sold in its own shiny individual box with the message, “What will your doughnut reveal?”

I bought one at the Krispy Kreme store in Ontario and got sorted into Slytherin house. Its cream center was a sinister dark green.

The collection includes a Golden Snitch Specialty Latte with a caramel toffee flavor, served hot or cold for $4.69.

The collection has been good for traffic at Krispy Kreme shops according to Wendy Glickman, chief marketing officer for Awesome Doughnut, LLC, which franchises and develops Krispy Kreme shops in Southern California. She said stores have been selling out by 9:30 a.m.

When phoned on Tuesday and Wednesday, Krispy Kreme stores from Burbank to Rancho Mirage confirmed that the doughnuts were sold out or in short supply by mid-morning. In addition to Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Ravenclaw doughnuts are remaining after Griffyndor, Harry Potter’s house, sell out.

Some TikTok content producers seemed to agree, favoring the taste of the Griffyndor doughut and saying Krispy Kreme “brought the magic” with this limited time offer.

Investors also took notice. Krispy Kreme stock was up as high as nearly 3.5% on Wednesday, according to Yahoo Finance. It took a beating earlier this summer after the doughnut chain and McDonald’s called off their partnership.

The website TradingView connected traders’ enthusiasm with the Hogwarts promotion. “The collaboration with the globally recognized Harry Potter brand is a significant marketing move expected to attract fans and drive sales,” an online article said.

Hogwarts doughnuts are starting to appear at retailers that receive daily shipments from Krispy Kreme. They are sold by the half dozen for $14.99. Each box contains each of the four Hogwarts house doughnuts plus two undecorated Original Glazed doughnuts.
