Cypress baseball adds another title to long list of league championships
    • April 27, 2026

Benjamin Martinez is reminded of it at every game and practice for the Cypress baseball team.

On the outfield fence at the school’s baseball field, there is a list with every year the Centurions have won a league championship, along with a list of the Cypress players who have received CIF-SS and Orange County player of the year recognition and alums who played Major League Baseball.

“It’s kind of cool to see those named of guys who played MLB and how long we’ve been winning league championships,” Martinez said.

Cypress clinched its 13th straight league championship Friday with an 8-5 win over Foothill. The Centurions are assured of at least a share of the Crestview League title.

Most of the baseball program’s other league championships were in the Empire League.

Cypress can win the Crestview championship outright with a win in either of its two league games this week against second-place Villa Park. Cypress is 9-1 in league and Villa Park is 5-3.

The Orange County baseball record for consecutive league championships is 17, established by La Quinta (1993-2009).

Cypress coach John Weber, in his 21st season, said having continuity in his coaching staff is a large part of the program’s success.

“I’ve pretty much had the same staff since I’ve been here,” Weber said. “There’s a consistency in the way we do things and the way we communicate.”

Conrad Colby has been a Cypress assistant coach for nine seasons, John Short for seven seasons and Stan Grebeck and Gary Moreno for six years each. Varsity assistant Cameron Repetti and junior varsity coaches Isaak Gutierrez and Mike Marsh played for Weber at Cypress. Freshman coach Charles Williams has been in the program for 19 seasons.

“Of course you have to have good players,” Weber said. “They’re the ones winning games, not the coaches. The players have to buy in to what we’re doing here and so do their parents.”
