OC track championships: Tustin’s Theo George-Bell breaks school record
    • April 19, 2026

MISSION VIEJO – Many of the county’s elite track and field boys athletes were competing 40 miles to the north, but there still were plenty of fine performances Saturday in the Orange County Track and Field Championships at Mission Viejo High.

Tustin senior Theo George-Bell broke an Olympian’s school record. George-Bell won the 100 meters in 10.64 seconds to surpass the record of 10.65 set by Ameer Webb in 2009. Webb went on to be an NCAA champion in the 200 and compete in the 2016 Olympics.

George-Bell had the Webb record targeted.

“My goal was to get 10.64,” George-Bell said. “My teammates have all been pushing me. I want to be the best I can and push my teammates to their limits so they can achieve their goals as well.”

Fountain Valley set the meet record in the boys 4×800 relay with a time of 8 minutes, 5.29 seconds to beat the meet mark of 8:09.87 set last year by Beckman.

Los Alamitos and Orange Lutheran tied for the boys team championship with 46 points each. Woodbridge was third in the team points race with 39.

Competing Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut were Servite’s boys relay teams that have been breaking state records (their own) weekly and Friars individual stars including Benjamin Harris, Kamil Pelovello and twins Jace and Jorden Wells, JSerra 800 star Alden Morales, whose time of 1 minute, 50.25 seconds is the county’s best time in that event this season, and other county standouts were also competing at Mt. SAC.

Los Alamitos sophomore Chaise Davis won the 400 with his personal-best time of 49.38 seconds.

Woodbridge junior Aidan Antonio won the meet’s 1,600 for the second year in a row. Antonio won it in 4 minutes, 13.67 seconds.

He later won the 3,200 with his time of 9 minutes, 17.79 seconds. It was Antonio’s third 3,200 this season and his best time in the event this year by 30 seconds.

Antonio has been dealing with a back issue in recent days, which he felt limited his performance Saturday.

“It wasn’t the time I wanted,” Antonio said after the 1,600. “I wanted a sub-4:10. My time today was about what it was last year (a winning time of 4:13.84), so I guess it’s alright.”

As for the 3,200, Antonio said he wanted to win while avoiding expending too much energy because of CIF Southern Section meets coming next month.

“I have a lot of big races coming up,” he said. “To come out here and still win is all I can ask for and it tells me I’m going in the right direction.”

Antonio was the Orange County boys cross country athlete of the year this past fall. His best time this track season in the 1,600 is 4:11.60.

Antonio’s Woodbridge teammate, senior Aiden Zavala, won the 800 in 1 minute, 54.99 seconds.

Soda-pop Dailey, a senior at Aliso Niguel, won the 300 hurdles with his time of 39.18 seconds. He was happy about his strong finish that carried him to his personal-record time.

“I’m really elated,” Dailey said. “This is probably one of my best races. I made one little mistake early but I can work that out.”

As for his first name … that’s his real first name. He is named for a character in the 1967 book, “The Outsiders.”

“I’m very easy to pick out because of my name,” said Dailey, who loves it. “I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.”

Fountain Valley junior Badr Farag surprised himself with his victory in the 200 with his finish of 21.72, his personal best.

“I saw some of this season’s times of the other guys in the field,” said Farag, who passed Canyon’s Joshua Vu in the final few meters. “I saw an opening and I took it.”

Corona del Mar senior Connor Eggleston finished on top in the long jump at 21 feet, 6¼ inches.

Segerstrom senior Matthew Orellana won the shot put with his throw of 51 feet, 7 inches. San Juan Hills senior Troy Barmettler captured the discus title with his heave of 44 feet, 0 inches.

Pacifica junior Jason Szatkovski won the discus with his throw of 155 feet, 1 inch and finished second in the shot put at 49-3. Szatkovski was named field events athlete of the meet.

The other athletes of the meet were: Antonio, distance events; and Farag for sprints.

Coming up next in the track and field season are league championships followed by CIF Southern Section competition.
