Galaxy turn attention to MLS after CONCACAF Champions Cup ouster
    • April 17, 2026

After being eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup, losing Wednesday’s second leg against Toluca FC 3-0 and 7-2 on aggregate, the Galaxy return to MLS play Saturday and for the remainder of the season.

The Galaxy reside in 10th place in the Western Conference (2-3-2, eight points). Their 2-1 win at Austin FC on April snapped a 20-game winless road streak dating to late in the 2024 season.

Whether or not the seat is truly hot for Galaxy coach Greg Vanney will be determined how the team refocuses in league play.

“We still have a really busy schedule right in front of us and we’re on the road, which is always going to be a challenge, but I think the group will show resiliency,” Vanney said. “All of our attention now can go to MLS and I think that’s where we’re going to be, focusing on MLS. We have a tough road trip to Dallas and Columbus as the first way to get this thing started.”

The Galaxy visit FC Dallas (3-1-3, 12 points) on Saturday and then head to Columbus (1-3-3, 6 points) for a midweek game, before returning home to close the month April 26 against Real Salt Lake. After April, the Galaxy will be faced with a five-game May before the league pauses for the FIFA World Cup.

“All of us, we don’t want to make the same season as last year,” defender Maya Yoshida said. “To be honest, if you see our roster, we are better than (Sporting) Kansas (City), better than Colorado, for example …we shouldn’t have lost so many points. But this is what it is, we shouldn’t be here, we should get more points, but the reality is we didn’t win, so we have to win.”

This season is already looking and sounding like last season. For consecutive games, the Galaxy supporters have serenaded the group with chants of “We Want Better” and “Vanney Out.”

“I have a lot of confidence in this team,” forward João Klauss said. “I know how hard guys work. It’s not an excuse, but it’s been a really tough schedule in the beginning of the season, but as I said, I have a lot of confidence in this team and I know we’re going to turn this season around.

“We didn’t have a lot of time to train since the beginning of the season, but I trust this team 100 percent. We have a great coach … I know we didn’t see it well for a few games, but we have a lot of quality in this team and I’m sure we’re going to turn it around.”

    Injury update

Erik Thommy, who went down and was subbed off in Wednesday’s Champions Cup game, will miss the game with a thigh injury. Matheus Nascimento (thigh/hamstring) remains out. Jakob Glesnes (calf) is listed as questionable, but is on the trip.
