John Domen promoted to football head coach at Yorba Linda
    • April 15, 2026

John Domen has been promoted to football head coach at Yorba Linda.

Domen, 36, was assistant head coach to Jeff Bailey the past two seasons. Bailey left Yorba Linda to become the football head coach at Beverly Hills High.

Domen has worked in the Yorba Linda football program since 2013, having served as offensive line coach and junior varsity head coach among other responsibilities. He is a history teacher at Yorba Linda High.

He sees becoming head coach as a natural progression of his life in football.

“Football has given me everything I have in my life,” Domen said. “That’s why I live to give back whatever I can it.”

Yorba Linda moves up to the Alpha League, Orange County’s top public-school football league, this fall for the 2026 and ’27 seasons. The league expanded from a four-team league the past two seasons to a six-team league this coming season. Its members are Edison, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, San Juan Hills and Yorba Linda.

“We’re obviously in a very competitive league with some great coaches,” Domen said. “I’m excited for this opportunity to be in what I think is the best public-school football league in California, if not the nation.”

Yorba Linda this past season finished 9-3 overall and won the Bravo League championship with a 5-0 league record. The Mustangs lost to eventual division champion Los Alamitos, 35-28, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.

Domen and his wife Claudia have a son, Vincent, who is 4 months old.
