Rosary, Servite continue record-setting success at Arcadia Invitational
    • April 12, 2026

ARCADIA – Another meet, another record-breaking day for the Rosary and Servite track teams.

The Rosary and Servite relay teams set records Saturday in the Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High.

Rosary ran the 4×100 relay in 44.20 seconds to set the girls state record. That is also the fifth-fastest time nationally at the high school level.

Minutes later, Servite ran the 4×100 in 39.70 seconds to break the state record that the Friars set last week. The Friars’ time Saturday is sixth all-time in the nation.

Long Beach Poly had established the girls 4×100 state record of 44.50 seconds in 2024.

Servite set the state record in the 4×100 (39.82 seconds) at the Trabuco Hills Invitational last week.

The Friars’ foursome of sophomore Jorden Wells, junior Benjamin Harris and sophomores Jace Wells and Kamil Pelovello became the first California 4×100 team to run the event in under 40 seconds.

Rosary’s 4×100 team of sophomores Maliyah Collins and Tra’via Flournoy, junior Pfeiffer Lee and senior Justine Wilson ran the event in 45.02 seconds last week to set the Orange County record.

On Friday night, Rosary won the 4×200 relay with a county-record time of 1 minute, 34.29 seconds. The Royals established the record in the 4×200 last season with a 1:36.96.

“It’s so exciting to be able to hit our goals,” Wilson said. “And to do it with these teammates, I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Rosary and Servite track coach Brandon Thomas had anticipated a little bit better showing from the Servite group.

“I was expecting 39.50 for the boys,” Thomas said. “But 39.70 … I’m extremely proud of them.”

Servite also set a county record Friday in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1 minute, 22.6 seconds. The Friars set the county record in that event last season at 1:23.84

“What’s next?” said Servite junior Benjamin Harris, who ran the second leg of the relay and also won the 100 in 10.42 seconds, repeating the question from a reporter. “I’m going to say 39.5. Just keep dropping it lower and lower. I know we can go faster.”

As for the Rosary 4×100 team, Thomas said: “The girls lit it up. That 44.23 is amazing. I’m super excited for them.”

Even a Rosary third-place finish Saturday was good enough for a county record. The Royals were third in the 4×400 relay with their time of 3 minutes, 45.30 seconds. That beat the Orange County record of 3:45.44 set by Rosary last year.

Servite athletes finished 1-2-3 in the 200. Pelovello finished first at 21.14 seconds, just a shade in front of Jorden Wells (21.14). Jorden’s twin brother, Jace, was third (21.25).

JSerra’s 4×800 girls relay team set an Orange County record with its winning time of 8 minutes, 50.32 seconds. JSerra had set the record in the event in 2022 (8:52.26).

Aliso Niguel senior Jaslene Massey continued her pursuit of one of Orange County track and field’s older records. Massey won the shot put with a mark of 53 feet, 2 inches for the second-best outdoor mark in Orange County history. The county record of 53-7.75 was set by Fullerton’s Natalie Kaaiawahia in 1983.

Massey also won the discus with a mark of 182 feet, 2 inches. She set the county record in the discus last month with a throw of 188-07.

JSerra’s girls program has made the Arcadia Invitational 4,000 distance medley its own event, in a way. The Lions have won it multiple times and did so again Saturday with a time of 11 minutes, 52.42 seconds.

Brea Olinda senior Julia Teven won the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 10 inches. She had worked her way through a cold that hit her earlier in the week.

“I had no expectations,” Teven said. “I thought I was not going to do what I wanted to do. But I was able to break my own school record (of 5-8).”

There are two big meets on the schedule for Orange County track and field on April 18: the Orange County Championships at Mission Viejo High and the Mt. SAC  Invitational at Mt. San Antonio College.

Massey was unsure of plans for that day, while Teven and the sprinters for Rosary and Servite said they will be at Mt. SAC.
