Servite’s Mason Graham and Tetairoa McMillan make history at NFL Draft
    • April 26, 2025

Former Servite football teammates Mason Graham and Tetairoa McMillan created plenty of history at the NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wis.

With Graham being selected No. 5 by the Cleveland Browns and McMillan going No. 8 to the Carolina Panthers, they became the first former high school teammates in California to be selected in the first round of the same draft since 1997.

The draft feat on Thursday had been achieved only once before in state history.

In 1997, former El Camino of Oceanside defensive backs Bryant Westbrook (Detroit Lions, fifth pick) and Michael Booker (Atlanta Falcons, 11th) became the first ex-high school teammates in California history to be first-round picks in the same year, according to CalHiSports editor/publisher Mark Tennis.

Graham, a defensive tackle from Michigan, and McMillan, a wide receiver from Arizona, became the highest-drafted tandem in the same NFL Draft in state history.

Orange County’s football presence at the draft extended beyond Graham and McMillan. Former Servite football coach Troy Thomas, who guided Graham and McMillan for four years with the Friars, attended the event and spent time with his former proteges.

Thomas is now the defensive coordinator at Edison.

In 2021, Graham and McMillan helped the Friars beat St. John Bosco in the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals en route to a runner-up finish to Mater Dei.

At Carolina, McMillan becomes a top target for former Mater Dei QB Bryce Young.
