    • March 10, 2025

THE GAME: Five Angels pitchers combined to hold the Cincinnati Reds to five hits in a 4-1 victory in a Cactus League game on Sunday in Tempe, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Jack Kochanowicz retired all 12 hitters he faced in four innings. He struck out two and got five groundouts. Kochanowicz needed just 44 pitches. He had to go down to the bullpen to get to his scheduled pitch-count of 65. Kochanowicz has allowed one earned run in nine innings so far this spring. Manager Ron Washington said Kochanowicz had “everything” working for him. “He was just throwing his game today.” … Right-hander Kenley Jansen worked around a walk and a hit in his inning. Jansen has not allowed a run in three innings so far this spring. … Right-hander Ben Joyce struck out two and walked one in a scoreless inning. He has also worked three scoreless innings this spring. … Right-hander Shaun Anderson gave up one run in two innings, escaping a jam to end the game with a double play. Anderson has seven strikeouts and no walks in six innings this spring.

HITTING REPORT: Taylor Ward led off the game with a double and then he scored on a Logan O’Hoppe double. … Yoán Moncada hit his first homer of the spring. After going hitless in his first 10 at-bats of the spring, Moncada has hits in each of his last three games. He’s now 3 for 18, but he’s drawn seven walks. “He’s starting to come,” Washington said. “He’s starting to square balls up. You can see it.” … Mike Trout was 0 for 2 with a walk, and one of the outs was a batter’s interference. The umpire ruled that Trout interfered with the Reds catcher when a runner was trying to steal second.

DEFENSE REPORT: Moncada made a backhand stop along the third base line and then a quick throw to first for the out. … Center fielder Mickey Moniak made a sliding catch on the warning track in left-center. … Jansen fielded a bunt on a safety squeeze and flipped it out of his glove to first base for the out.

UP NEXT: Angels (RHP Chase Silseth) vs. Colorado Rockies (RHP Antonio Senzatela), Monday, 1:10 p.m. PT, at Tempe Diablo Stadium, FanDuel Sports Network West, 830 AM
